Dement, William C., , M.D., Ph.D. Some Must Watch While Some Must Sleep, Stanford Alumni Association, 1972. Available in most libraries. Conveys in non-technical language what scientists have learned about sleep. Immensely readable and often humorous, this book is an incisive personal report to the reader from one of the world's leading sleep researchers. Dr. Dement fully discusses the fascinating world of dreams (including creativity during dreaming), sleep disorders, and the relationship of sleep disorders to mental illness.
Fritz, Roger, Ph.D. Sleep Disorders: America's Hidden Nightmare, National Sleep Alert, Inc., 1993. $12.95. This book looks at the symptoms, studies, treatments, and consequences of ignorance of sleep disorders. Fritz also recommends specific actions needed. This is sure to wake you to the disasterous consequences of ignoring sleep problems. Includes a complete index, a glossary, addresses of support groups for sleep and sleep-related disorders and other resources for those interested in sleep health and sleep disorders.

Lamberg, Lynne. Drugs and Sleep, Chelsea House, 1988. This book was written for high school readers, but is a good source of information. Lamberg provides a concise overview of the nature of sleep, the causes of insomnia, how sleeping pills work, good sleep habits and other advice for troubled sleepers.
Langen, Dietrich. Speaking of Sleep Problems. Information on learning to sleep well again, including directions for making an analysis of your sleep and keeping a sleep diary.
